I
should be studying for my Econs test.
I should be studying for my Chem test.
I should be doing all my tutorials on time.
I should be reading lecture notes ahead.
Some of the things I should be doing, but don't particularly want to do.
Sometimes I wonder,
if life's that short,
why do we stress ourselves out with a million things we should be doing?
Where do we find the time do to all the wonderful things we want to do?
Yes, yes,
Human wants are insatiable,
& we will never be fully satisfied (according to those so-called 'experts' in economics)
But when you think about it,
there's got to be this one thing that will make you truly happy.
Yes,
you'll still have a million other things you want.
A beautiful MacBook,
A Marc Jacob's dress,
A pair of Louboutins?
But when you think about it carefully,
having that one thing is all you really need to be happy.
I'm pretty sure most people spend their whole lives searching for that one special thing.
Love.
Money.
Passion.
I believe everybody should be given the chance & time to find that something special.
In Singapore,
I'm pretty sure we have almost half our live planned for us.
You go to school,
Primary, Secondary, JCs/Polytechnics, Universities. (Approximately 25 years)
That's probably the standard path every parent has in their head.
They all want their kid(s) to make it big in the future.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that.
But the way our education system is structured,
it really makes me think if we can do more than merely memorizing texts & formulas off books/notes.
Our education system may seem to work,
we get jobs, we make money, we feed our family.
But in my opinion,
I think this 25 years of our lives could be spent doing something more meaningful.
Like perhaps,
have a proper childhood?
People don't get another chance to experience that,
& it's a shame we spend most of it studying. (more than half of which we'll forget)
Even though I don't like studying (honestly, who does?),
after posting this,
I'll probably be going back to doing it.
Studying sucks,
but you do get satisfaction when you see neat piles of work, all done.
After what I've gone through recently,
I really think it's important to find that something you're looking for,
hold on to it and never let go.
Don't take things for granted.
When all is lost & gone,
all you've got left are those silly memories.
I admit,
I used to dread you calling me in the middle of the night or when I'm in the middle of something.
After I lost you, there's not a day when I don't miss those rude interruptions.
Everyday, I tell myself
Keep Calm & Carry On,
You'll make it through the day.
